Professor Murphy of Boston University is Invited to our College to hold an Academic Lecture
On May 24, 2019, Professor James Murphy, Professor of Boston University and Researcher of the Royal Society of History, visited our College of Foreign Languages and gave two academic lectures entitled "Novels and land in Victorian Ireland" and "Irish Fiction and the New Woman" to our teachers and students in the afternoon and evening. In addition to the students and teachers of all majors in our college, there were also teachers and students from other colleges who were interested in Irish literature. Professor Li Chengjian, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, presided over Professor Murphy's academic lecture. In the first lecture, Professor Murphy led the teachers and students into the Victorian English novels with a unique perspective, showing the unique cultural landscape of Ireland in the Victorian era. In the second lecture, through the female images in Irish novels, Professor Murphy showed the great changes in Ireland since the 20th century. At the end of the two lectures, teachers and students actively asked questions about the topic of the lectures, and Professor Murphy gave a patient and meticulous answer. Professor Murphy's lecture was very enlightening and profound. The teachers and students here benefited a lot. Both of the lectures were successfully concluded with warm applause.
