Professor Liao firstly presented a large number of materials and summarized the present situation of the translation of Chinese classics, pointing out that the effect of the translation of Chinese classics is quite unsatisfactory. Next, Professor Liao classified the translated classics and indicated that different classics have different functions. By comparing the proportion of Chinese and Western translation works, Professor Liao believes that Chinese classics translation is that from weak culture to strong culture and can be called as "reverse translation". Professor Liao, taking France's removal of foreign words from the language as an example, introduced the "cultural mood" of different nationalities and the "image of others" within different nationalities. As far as the channels of communication are concerned, Professor Liao believes that the current translation of Chinese classics mainly takes the traditional media as the carrier, and less takes the form of new media. Through the above analysis, Professor Liao concluded that the translation of classics should adopt different translation strategies according to different acceptive contexts.

Finally, Professor Liao Qiyi held a heated discussion with teachers and students in our department on the issues of "what to translate", "how to translate" and "who to translate".
