On the afternoon of November 24th,2018, the School of Foreign Languages held a talk on preliminary cooperation and exchange with the Humanities and Social Sciences Department of the University of Leeds. Attendances were Dean LiChengjian, Director of the International Department Jiang Jiwen, Associate Professor Li Bin, Zeng Xiangmin, He Jun, and Foreign Secretary Wang Zhe from our school and delegates from the University of Leeds, Professor Frank Finlay, also the Minister of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor Manuel Barcia, the Vice Minister of the Department of International Exchange in Humanities and Social Sciences.
At the beginning of the meeting, the two sides gave a brief introduction to their respective research fields and expertise. Then our Foreign Secretary, Mr. Wang Zhe, made a brief introduction to the development of the School of Foreign Languages, the teaching force, scientific research, training programmeand extended our wishes for future cooperation and exchange with the University of Leeds.
The two sides discussed the "2+2" Joint Training Programme, and reached a consensus that English-major students will be the main participants. This programme will be carried out among undergraduates, mainly to benefit the juniors and seniors. These students will have a chance to conduct further research on culture and language in the University of Leeds. In addition, discussion on further cooperation in training translation-major students was carried out. A Joint Training Programme called "1+1+1" is expected to attract taught masters in translation, or they can also choose to pursue a master degree in Leeds after graduation.
Based on the smooth communication of the two cooperation projects above, our school also plans to assist Leeds University to promote its summer holiday study projects, and encourage students in such majors as French, Germany, and Chinese, to experience and learn through it.
Through this meeting, the two sides had a better understanding about each other and can't wait to launch these cooperation projects as soon as possible to further promote international exchanges. I sincerely hope that this cooperation will be a great success in the future.
