The colorful autumn with burning red maple and shimmering golden ginkgo witnessed the reunion of the Prefectural University of Hiroshima (PUH) and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU). At 9 a.m. on Oct. 22 th, the PUH delegation consisting of President Nakamura, Pro. Morinaga, Mr. Chisaki and Ms. Matsumoto, the two chiefs of the International Exchange Department, paid a visit to SWJTU. Yan Qipeng, the Vice Secretary General of the Party Committee SWJTU along with vice executive dean of SLF Wang Weiming, Ren Xinhong, the deputy director of the International Office, Lv Zhaoxing and Wang Huan, teachers of Japanese, met with them and gave a warm welcome to the guests.
It is the third delegation from PUH to visit SWJTU since the short-term students exchange program agreement was signed between the two universities in 2012. The meeting started with the souvenir exchange. Pro. Morinaga, on behalf of PUH, presented the famous Hiroshima ceramic –a Miyajima vase to SWJTU, in return, a piece of Sichuan brocade was given to PUH by Vice President Yan on behalf of SWJTU. The history of SWJTU was depicted through the pictures embroidered on the brocade which was a token of gratitude and welcome. The Vice Dean of SLF Wang Pengfei, on behalf of SLF, expressed heartfelt thanks to the support and care given by PUH to the exchange students from SWJTU. Then, the two universities held a discussion on the extension of the student short term exchange program to include teachers as well as academic exchanges in different fields.
The Department of Japanese in charge of the program has dispatched 12 people in 4 groups to PUH for studies. It is expected that the Department will send the 5th group of students to Japan in spring next year. During the meeting, “Exchange students from your university are model students for they are hardworking, optimistic, cute and active”, said the teachers from PUH. PUH was very grateful that SWJTU had sent excellent students to study in their university and they also invited SWJTU leaders and teachers to visit Hiroshima. After the meeting, Lv Zhaoxing and Wang Huan, teachers from the Department of Japanese, showed the PUH delegation around the new campus and discussed details of the program to be launched in next spring.
