From Sept. 18th to 21st, the International Conference on the Multi-lingual Translations of Red Dream Mansions in Europe and the Overseas Rediological Studies was duly convened at Palacky University of Czech Republic. Co-sponsored by the China Institute of Hongloumeng Studies, Confucius Institute at Palacky University and the School of Foreign Languages of Southwest Jiaotong University, the conference attracts over 30 professors and scholars from the China Institute of Hongloumeng Studies, Peking University, Beijing Language and Culture University, and Hong Kong Baptist University of China, Hallym University and Andong National University of South Korea, University of Copenhagen of Denmark, Munich University of Applied Languages of Germany, Institute of Oriental Studies of Slovak Academy of Science, Comenius in Bratislava of Slovak, University of Zurich of Switzerland, and Palacky University and Charles University in Prague of Czech Republic. The translators of the full Korean, Slovakian, Danish and Polish versions of Hongloumeng participated in the Conference. Vice Dean Wang Pengfei, associate professors Tang Jun and Yang Anwen, and Liu Mingyang from the School of Foreign Languages of Southwest Jiaotong University are invited to attend the Conference.

Huang Xiaoming, dean of the Confucius Institute at Palacky University presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, and Dr. Ivana Oborná's welcomed all the participants. Professor Sun Yuming, a Chinese Redologist, vice-chairman of the Society of Hongloumeng and director of the China Institute of Rediological Studies, gave an address and presented his paper on the appreciation of Hongloumeng. Participants read their theses and discussed the multi-lingual translations of the book in Europe and the overseas redological studies. Dr. Wang, Dr. Tang and Ms. Liu submitted their theses Difficult Journey to the West: Early Studies on and Spread of Hongloumeng in English-speaking Countries, An Outline of the Polish Version of Hongloumeng, and The Manifestation of the Multi-cultural Connotations of "Shenxian" (gods) in the Russian Retranslation respectively. Mr. Yang, who was a visiting scholar at the University of London, took part in the conference. At the closing ceremony, Mr. Wang gave a speech on behalf of the co-sponsors.

All the participants agreed that the present exploration in these fields expanded and enriched the Redological studies, contributing to the internationalization of the researches, and to some extent, injected new momentum to the pursuit. During the four-day conference, representatives from Foreign Language School of SWJTU, led by Mr.Wang, visited the vice president of Palacky University, Dr.Ivana Oborna, and held discussions on the student exchange and academic communication between Palacky University and SWJTU. They also talked with scholars of University of Zurich and Hallym University on issues such as horizontal academic communication and joint programs, etc.
