The Party committee conference for the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) was held on April 3rd, 2014. The conference rolled out the Party’s key tasks and overall plans for the year, 2014. The Party Secretary, Xu Ge, presided over the meeting, and participants included party committee members of the SFL and secretaries from the party branches.
At the meeting, Ms. Xu Ge mapped out the key tasks and plans of the Party committee for the SFL in 2014. She pointed out that 2014 is the year slated for fully implementing the guidelines of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC, for deepening reform, and carrying out the university’s Twelfth Five-Year Plan. Based on the Guiding Opinion on Party Organizations at Southwest Jiaotong University in 2014, combined with the key tasks of its Talents Strategy, Internationalization Strategy, and the 14th Party Congress of the university, the SFL Party Committee will focus on the following tasks: 1) studying and implementing the essential points from the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC and President Xi Jinping’s speeches; party members playing an important role in developing the school through cultivating talents and pushing forward its internationalization; party members innovatively carrying out theory study and organizing activities according to the characteristics of the SFL 2) strengthening the leadership of the SFL’s administrative team, enhancing political theory study at different levels for party members, faculty members, and students 3) preparing for the 14th Party Congress of the SFL, and organizing activities that solicit teachers’ opinions towards party leadership 4) organizing the School’s leading group to collectively study and discuss the “eight rules and six prohibitions” that were introduced by the central committee and promoting the construction of the party’s conduct and anti-corruption campaign 5) fully improving students’ professional capacities and training in their humanistic attainments with the support of the Gezhi learning association; developing building the Party amongst students and bringing in quality controls for the Party membership application materials 6) implementing the strategy of developing the SFL through cultivating talents and pushing forward its internationalization; bringing in more talents and enhancing the development of young teaching staff and research teams; training more teachers with leadership potential 7) striving to guarantee all-round safety for students in accordance with the principle of “stability and safety come first” 8) properly arranging exams and managing exam papers for different national-level English tests according to the confidentiality rules and regulations 9) doing more work related to the management of the Labor Union and Teacher’s Representative Committee meeting, and appropriately helping retired teachers in their daily life.
Ms. Xu Ge requested that: all party branches strictly adhere to the principles of the party’s organizational life; keep attendance records for party members; carefully record details of organizational life in the minutes book; carry out evaluation work of Party members. The Party committee will also allocate activity funds to support branches in enriching organizational life and carry out open and interactive inner-Party activities, to further improve communication amongst Party members.
At the end of the conference, participants had an in-depth discussion about such problems as how to better achieve talent construction and make breakthroughs in scientific research. They concluded the meeting with a clear development direction and a better understanding of the key tasks for the upcoming year.
