On the afternoon of December 19, 2023, Yan Xuedong, President of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), met with the leadership team and representative teachers of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) and exchanged ideas about the School’ work. Representatives of teachers from SFL attended the exchange meeting, including the school’s party and government leadership team, the professor committee, directors of departments, heads of programs, etc.

   Professor Yu Senlin, Dean of SFL, first gave a brief introduction to the development of SFL. To support SWJTU’s need for language education and serve the need for language services talents for the development of China, SFL adheres to talent cultivation under the national “Double First Class” University Plan. In the future, SFL will continue to center on SWJTU’s orientation of “building a top-class comprehensive research-oriented university with distinction in transport and traffic”, accelerate the construction of Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative system, especially in the sphere of rail traffic, as well as train talents with solid language foundation and global vision to better serve China’s national development strategy. Professor Li Chengjian, Party Secretary of SFL, and some other teachers also introduced the progress SFL had made in terms of talent training, course system, and discipline construction.

   President Yan spoke highly of the School’s well-designed system and achievements in talent training. He pointed out that with support from the university, SFL shall give full play to the strengths of disciplines, optimize structures to meet the needs of the new era, and accelerate the integration of foreign language and literature with other disciplines to train interdisciplinary talents.
