Business English Department Held Experience Sharing Conference on Postgraduate Recommendation

In order to fully leverage the exemplary and leading role of outstanding students, guide students to actively forge ahead, and make clear learning goals, the Business English Department The Department of Business English invited representatives of outstanding students to share their experience in postgraduate recommendation at 7:00 p.m. on December 6 in the Foreign Language Salon of No. 1 Teaching Building.

The five students invited to participate in this exchange activity are Cui Xinyi, Chen Yiyao, Yan Mengdie, Yang Xiaoqi, and Zhang Ye, who have successfully been recommended for admission to be postgraduates.

 

Five outstanding student representatives first introduced their personal situation from the aspects of GPA, average score, grade ranking, language scores, and the choice of recommendation for graduate school. Then, they focused on analyzing the preparation of “paying attention to the recommendation process for graduate school recommendation, making clear timeline, striving to improve GPA, , paying attention to competition bonus points, organizing college information, and setting  goals”. In addition, emphasis was placed on the precautions, such as “paying attention to the official website of the target university, checking information such as department settings and major directories, identifying the desired university and major to be applied to; reviewing previous summer camp activities or pre-recommendation notifications, reviewing the admission list, as well as the arrangements for the summer camp and so on.

In terms of school selection, the five representatives all suggested that relevant work must be done well, such as balancing the relationship between the city and the school, employment and academic research, understanding the similarities and differences between the school style and its own characteristics, and combining personal academic interests with the research directions of supervisors. In terms of their experience and insights on applying for and preparing for graduate school admission, all five students discussed the importance of “taking actions firmly”, learning to “dispel the charm”, being brave enough to accept the results, achieving twice the result with half the effort, and using the experience of applying and preparing for graduate school admission to accumulate courage and experience.

 

Learning from role models and building confidence in major is the biggest harvest that this sharing meeting has brought to students of Business English. They all expressed that in the future, they will also strive to answer the three major questions of “employment, further education, or going abroad?” like the five outstanding representatives. Once the goal of being admitted to graduate school is established, preparations should be made to improve academic performance during school, familiarize themself with the target universities and majors, and other related work. This sharing session fully utilized the role of peer guidance, deepened the understanding of the major among Business English students, guided them to establish reasonable development goals, enhanced their confidencein major, clarified the goals of academic planning, and enhanced the cohesion among college students.
