On May 28, 2022, ARKHIPOVA TAISIA (Chinese name: Feng Ling), a 2018 grade Russian student majoring in Japanese, successfully completed her undergraduate thesis defense online. Feng Ling became the fourth overseas student in the Japanese Department after two Thai graduate students (returned to teach) and one Vietnamese undergraduate (admitted to Tianjin University for a master's degree).
Feng Ling became a freshman of Japanese Department in September 2018. With the help of teachers and classmates, she quickly adapted to the school life. She studies diligently, and actively participates in various activities where she achieves outstanding performance. From 2019 to 2021, she has been awarded the “Chengdu Belt and Road Scholarship” for three consecutive times, and she also has been well received by teachers and classmates. Due to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Feng Ling was unable to return to school. She overcame difficulties such as the poor network and time difference, insisting on online learning, and successfully completed all the courses.
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Wang Fei, her graduation thesis is entitled “An Investigation and Research on Equivalence in Literary Translation ——A Case Study of the Comparison Between Chinese and Japanese Translations of Chekhov's Lady with a Dog”. She uses the equivalence translation theory to compare the four Chinese and Japanese translations with the Russian texts. The full text is more than 63,000 words, referring to more than 60 Chinese, Japanese, Russian, English and other literatures, reflecting a rigorous attitude, a solid foundation of Chinese and Japanese language skills and a good awareness of problems and research ability. Finally, she successfully passed the thesis defense with outstanding results.
During her study, Feng Ling took an active part in practical activities, like participated in Russia's Expo Electronica2022 and Expo Analitica2022 on behalf of Dalian Petroleum Company, Auwii Company, HK Bostock Company, HHITECH Hetai Company and other Chinese enterprises. She was responsible for translation and communication work, and her excellent working ability has been highly praised by both Chinese and Russian customers.
Feng Ling now works for a Russian company with Chinese investment. We believe she will continue to contribute to the friendly exchanges between China and Russia. Wish her a smooth life and work, and the friendship between the young people of China and Russia will last forever!

Letter from Feng Ling:
When you own something, maybe don't know how to cherish it, but once lost, then you just come to know how valuable it is. As a graduate, I can use such a sentence to describe my current inner feelings.
Four years ago, the moment I walked into the gate of Southwest Jiaotong University, I did not realize that the best time in my life would start from there. Honestly, I had a lot of doubts in my heart when I firstly studied in the Japanese department. I worried that if I had chosen the wrong path, and even wondered if I would be able to graduate and become the qualified student in the eyes of my Japanese teachers. But now, at the end of this journey, I am glad of my choice and persistence, because this place becomes my second and sweet home. I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate Southwest Jiaotong University and all the teachers who have helped me. I am especially grateful to the teachers and classmates of the Department of Japanese. Thanks to your enthusiastic and selfless help, I was able to reach the day of my graduation.
Although now I am in Russia, I am with all of you, and my Alma mater - Southwest Jiaotong University!
