Congratulation on Successful Conclusion of the FLTRP•ETIC Cup

At 2:00 pm, September 26th, the preliminary round of Public Speaking/Writing/Reading contests of FLTRP·ETIC Cup and its awarding ceremony  was held successfully in the student activity center with the strong support of Dean’s office, Graduate School, Party Committee Student Affairs Department, Communist Youth League SWJTU Committee and School of Foreign Languages. Yang Anwen and Yi Hong, both of Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, were invited as the award presenters. The Jury consisted of Yin Sijing, director of competition team of School of Foreign Languages, professor Li Xiaoying of Translation Department, associate professor Liao Chongde and Wu Minrui of Engineering English Department.

 

The ceremony comprised of three main parts. First, an opening ceremony was held to award contestants who were qualified for the provincial final of FLTRP·ETIC Cup English Reading and Writing Contests. Associate dean Yang Anwen addressed the contests and later with associate dean Yi Hong gave awards to winners.

 

The preliminary rounds of English writing and reading contestsSWJTU divisionwere held on September 20th and 26th respectively. More than 1700 students participated in the contests.

After the award ceremony, English public speaking contest of SWJTU division kicked off as the second part. There were 17 contestants entering into the final round where each contestant had three minutes to present a prepared speech, followed by a two-minute impromptu speech with a random topic. In the end, contestants should answer the questions raised by foreign teacher Dominic. Impassioned speeches were given to share players' personal experiences and moving moments, reflecting their close attention to current affairs and high sense of mission and responsibility.

The excellent performances of contestants revealed that students of our school were equipped with patriotism and global vision, showing their comprehensive abilities to state views, exchange thoughts and solve problems in English. English contests contributed to fostering great English-learning atmosphere, selecting and cultivating more versatile and practical talents needed for Chinese social development under the background of globalization. This also showed that Southwest Jiaotong University has made excellent achievements in innovative development of higher foreign language education. The passion and talents of our students were fully displayed.

 

 

In the conclusion ceremony of the contest, the jury gave penetrating comments on contestants’ performances from different angles and teacher Yin Sijing awarded for the contestants who were qualified for the provincial final of FLTRP·ETIC Cup English Public Speaking Contest.

1. Other qualified contestants consist of students with pass-through cards and students who are screened from online stage.

2. The proportion of the first, second and third prizes will be 5%, 10%, 15% of the total number of participants in our school. Please log in to the personal interface on the official website of FLTRP in late October to check the certificate (the FLTRP Cup online stage is not over).
