The Training seminar for minority English obligatory cram school of SWJTU was held in X1201, Xipu Campus at 11:40 on October 25, 2017. Wang Junqi, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Zhang Zhengqi, vice president of the Youth Volunteers Association of the SFL, presided over the meeting. Wei Houjing, the instructor of the YVA of SFL and other key leaders of the event were present at the meeting.

The focus of the meeting was to train the volunteer teachers of the Minority English Obligatory Cram School, let teachers clarify the significance of the activities and improve their teaching methods, and prepare for the smooth development of the activities. The Minority Cram School belongs to the public welfare activity which combined the the spirit of the 19th National Congress on doing a good job in minority group work and the actual situation of the school's ethnic education and practice the party building studies. It was of great significance to the development of school’s culture, the improvement of national unity, the promotion of national friendship, and the construction of a harmonious campus.

Wang Junqi first analyzed the specific situation of ethnic education and minority students in our school. He pointed out that SWJTU is located in the western China and has established many counterpart aid projects with universities in Tibet and Xinjiang. Compared with those of previous years, the number of minority students enrolled this year has increased. Most of them are in urgent need of improving their English.

Later, he made suggestions on how to optimize teaching methods and improve the quality of teaching. For instance, the curriculum should be arranged in accordance with the actual English ability of minority students. The tutoring shall focus the basic part. The tutors shall be divided into three groups to teach pronunciation, grammar and text respectively. With summarizing the advanced teaching experience of last year, we shall improve the standardization, scientificization and regularization of the teaching and management of the cram school.

At the end of the meeting, Wang put forward some new expectations.Tutors had a heated discussion on Wang Junqi’s speech.Hu Lin, as arepresentative, said she would put the requirements of Secretary Wang into practice.

All minority groups shall be taken into consideration in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects President Xi Jinping said on the 19th National Congress. We will heighten public awareness of ethnic unity and progress, and create a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. We will encourage more exchanges and interactions among different ethnic groups, helping them remain closely united like the seeds of a pomegranate that stick together, and work jointly for common prosperity and development. This minority English obligatory cram school is a vivid manifestation of studying and implementing Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
